Rimfire Resources had been approached by many of its valued clients over the years on how to best identify leading graduates from agribusiness that will suit their business.
The discussions invariably lead to many reasons why running a program was difficult including costs, the difficulty in sourcing candidates and locations of both companies and education providers.
Clients were also looking for candidates that would be the right “fit” for their business. They also wanted a program that not only selected graduates on academic merit, but also predominantly selected graduates on cultural outcomes and experiences that suited their business. This included graduates’ general agribusiness knowledge and experience, willingness to learn and develop within an organisation, ability to communicate with clients or customers, and the right ‘attitude’ towards the industry
In 2004, Rimfire Resources launched the first Grad-Link program which exceeded the expectations of both the participating agribusiness companies as well as the students. In 2005 students from Perth Universities took part in the program and in 2009 Grad-Link has also been launched into New Zealand.
Each year the Grad-Link Program has seen the number and quality of candidates applying for the program increase as well as participation from agribusiness companies.
